IN PROCESS: Beginner’s Mind

“In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s there are few.” – Shunryu Suzuki

We don’t have levels of training for our work. Only levels of relationship. This is our first level: The Beginner’s Mind.

The work is fab and highly successful, but only when we take the time to get to know each other.

Ensemble Devising (4-Day Devise-a-thon)

EVERYTHING IN 2-DAY DEVISE-A-THON (see above), PLUS:

MASTER CLASSES FOCUSING ON THE AUDIENCE:

– What Is Theatre? – Not as easy a question as you might think, and ripe with possibilities. See how even this simple investigation can break open your ensemble’s assumptions and expectations when creating art.

– Considered Spaces – More assumptions broken down when we explore when and where a story starts and finishes. With the ensemble, we take back the space anew from the lobby to the dressing room, from the park to the parking lot to see how environment can inform the process and product.

– Community Engagement Through Art – It’s the story you want to tell and the story the community needs to hear. How do you access and honor the community voice? How do you bring it into the process, emotionally and physically?

BONUS:

– The Devising and Performing Tango – These exercises address the tension between creating and giving. We play with “Manipulating Time and Space” and “The Power of Limitations.” The tight-rope walker needs the perfect tension, learn how to create that in your work.
