I’m walking down the street.  It’s a day like any other.  The sun is shining. Life is going on all around me and suddenly I see a a dollar bill on the ground in front of me.  I stop and breathe… I look around to see if anyone else notices.  I wonder about the person who’s dollar this is.  I bend down and pick it up, smile, put it in my pocket and head on my way.  My emotional state has changed.

I’m walking down the street.  It’s a day like any other.  The sun is shining.  Life is going on all around me and suddenly I realize that that my wallet is gone.  It’s not in my pocket.  I stop and breathe…   I look around to see if anyone else notices. I change my focus and start searching for my wallet by retracing my steps.  My emotional state has changed.

I’ve always been curious about the moment of unexpected discovery and its effect on live theatre.  The beauty of live theatre to me is that there is always an opportunity for the unexpected.  They say never be onstage with children or animals if you’re afraid of the unknown.   I have been there with both and yes something unexpected happened on all occasions.  I can only say that these moments were full of real life.  Breathe in the feeling of not knowing.  It was scary and exhilarating.

The pieces of the puzzle are always the same though the outcome is not.  Breathe, trust, stay present and know you’re being watched (an audience).  These ingredients give us a moment we have a hard time forgetting.
