Pick Yourself

I’m not 100% sure there needs to be more here. Surrounded by hundreds of people, young and old, auditioning for jobs, this is all I can keep saying in my head… with my eyes. “Pick yourself.”

This doesn’t mean we don’t audition for parts, interview for jobs and go out on work dinners to persuade potential clients. But you understand your worth before your 16-bars, before your elevator pitch, before the appetizer.

And you are also auditioning them. Are their aesthetics akin to yours? Their aspirations? Their vision of your profession?

This is a dance. And yes, you don’t always lead, but never let yourself be dragged around.
